DESCRIPTION
In the framework of Buddhism and Hinduism, a mudra is a gesture, considered sacred by those who perform it, usually done with the hands.
In Hinduism there are considered to be 24 major mudras.1 Along with asanas (body postures), mudras are used in Buddhist meditation and Hindu yoga. Common manual gestures form an important part of Hindu and Buddhist iconography.
In Japanese, the mudra is called 印 相 (inzō).
