DESCRIPTION

This mural, "Sugar Cane", created for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is almost a repetition of another one previously made that is exhibited in the Palacio de Cortés in Cuernavaca or Museo Regional Cuauhnáhuac, called "Sugar Mill of Tlaltenango", which is part of "History of Cuernavaca and Morelos".

Due to its high consumption, low selling price of sugar, and the immense effort required to harvest sugarcane, this work was linked to slavery. And when slaves were finally abolished, enslaved labor took its place. Cuba and Puerto Rico were the last sugar business paradises for European businessmen, specifically Spanish from the House of Bourbon.
