DESCRIPTION

This mural, "Sugar Cane", made for the Philadelphia Museum of Art is almost a repetition of another one previously made that is exhibited at the Palacio de Cortés in Cuernavaca or the Cuauhnáhuac Regional Museum, called "Sugar mill of Tlaltenango", which is part of "History of Cuernavaca and Morelos".

Due to its high consumption, low sugar sales price and the immense effort required to collect sugar cane, this work was linked to slavery, and when slaves were finally abolished, enslaved work took its place. Cuba and Puerto Rico were the last paradises of the sugar business for the European, Spanish "businessmen" of the Casa de Borbón.
